There is no truth to the rumor that an "Edge of Earth" sign is planted on the Hemphill County Court House lawn.  Fact is, a person has to drive about four and a half miles to the northeast to get to that particular sign.

It is true, however, that we do live just a bit off the beaten path.  We actually like it that way, but it does pose some problems for our kids.  It is extremely hard for some of them to be exposed to the cultural experiences that are common for urban children.

Meeting that need was one of the reasons the Canadian Arts Alliance was originally formed.

Beginning in 1995, we solicited funds from our community so we could bring in visiting artists, musicians, and story tellers and so we could provide a scholarship to a graduating senior who had excelled in some form of the arts.

Under the guidance of local artist Amy Winton and in cooperation with the Amarillo Chamber Music Society, we sponsored several art-with-music workshops for our grade school children.  John Erickson, author of Hank the Cowdog, has performed for our students.  Spring Creek, a popular Blue Grass band, has conducted workshops in our schools followed by a public performance.  We have helped make possible scholarships for the Canadian Dance Academy and for art lessons.

Though we are now branching out into providing entertainment for the wider community, we are ever mindful of our original intention to assist in providing the best educational experience possible for our children.

If you would like more information as to how you can assist CAA in enriching the educational experiences of our children, please contact a CAA board member.
